I can relate perfectly to your worry. You are a great human being and I'm glad to count you as a friend.

As Musclemonk my mission is to save the world with muscle.

For good or ill, my main muscle is mental.

I am not really referring to holistic health but holistic knowledge and holistic knowing, which of course sounds a little vague and new agey, but in terms of neuroscience and neurophysics is quite important.

Even better. At least from where I sit. Though it's far from my (alleged) fields of expertise, I've done a bit of reading in neuroscience and less in neurophysics. And while I might use different language, I spent the day after sending this post working with folks in the national security, peacebuilding, and tech worlds on projects in which are looking at integrating our worldviews more. All within frameworks of complexity and the like. Anything but new agey, though some of my national security friends have read in that world, too.

THanks for making me think in an afternoon when I was already close to brain dead after a long, intense, and fun days. Some of us are headed out for dinner now. The team comes together to continue the work of someone I met in nursery school almost 75 years ago and died a year or so ago. It is a very powerful network.

After that and another meeting tomorrow, I will dig into your work.

Have fun.

Thanks Chip. If you want to explore my work just talk to me directly. But there’s a lot in my substack. We don’t all need to have to do everything. And there’s a limit isn’t there?

Surely as a prodemocratic and labor activist your main muscle is your heart, in one sense, and your very real activism in another. Community is ecological and embodied, not merely mental. Surely you know that even better than I.

The new physics of life takes us into haptic perception or “active inference” as a product of not just ideation but the evolutionary and homeostatic mechanisms of life and the body. Hypermentalism is both the gift and the disease of modernity. Without grounding in the constraints of the physical substrate we only have, abstraction, relativism and overreach. You are mistaken to over identify with your intellect!

I was being a bit facetious. Seriously, I do get the importance of holistic health. Perhaps a bit belatedly. Few of my labor friends would call me a labor activist, but those issues certainly matter to me along all others that make holistic health hard to achieve especially, for instance, for people who don't have the same privileges that I do.
